Are you STARVING Yourself?? I DID

Ok so I have to just write a quick post in response to an email I received today.  As you know I have been doing classes about Adrenal Fatigue and Thyroid Disease.  I explained that I ended up with these conditions because I was on a restrictive diet without properly nourishing foods and then training sometimes 3 or 4 hours in a day to compete in the sport of Figure.
Well maybe I wasn't clear!  So to put it bluntly I was STARVING myself.  I was starving myself physically and this caused so many problems, both physical and mental.  I would binge on foods on the weekend and then throw them up because I was scared of the "calories", I would hide in my kitchen in the middle of the night and just stare into my refrigerator and cupboards and long for food.  I would CRY in the middle of the night because I was hungry!!!  All in the name of a sport!  All in the name of looking good!  Was I still healthy?  HELL NO!!  Was all the supplements I was taking to keep my energy up good for me?  Hell no!

So what the heck happened?  I will tell you!  I stopped eating 1000 to 1200 calories a day.  My body went into animal mode, it was survival (unfortunately my body doesn't know I was just dieting for 3 years for competitions it thought I was on a 4 year hike in the middle of no man's land and that the strike was over) and once food became unrestrictive and available I ATE EVERYTHING for MONTHS and MONTHS.  The only reason I only gained 15 pounds was because at the same time I was allowing myself to eat whatever I wanted I would only have the best foods in my house.  The most quality veggies, fruits, meats, fats, etc!  I was also doing protocol to heal my thyroid condition and get rid of my adrenal fatigue.  Now that I am back to my natural, healthy weight I look great, dropped some of the unwanted extra pounds and know I will never again go on a DIE-T why?  Because next time I may DIE!  If you are starving yourself in the name of health STOP IT NOW!!!!  I do not count calories (I don't believe in it!) but if I did I would probably say its double what my starvation diet was!  I feel better than I ever did before and I look damn good too!!  Make a commitment to yourself. Start with this:

Dearest Body of Mine,
After careful and thoughtful consideration,
I hereby promise to:
Listen to you with open ears and be aware of your aches and pains.
Love you for who you are and what you have already done
Accept that you are not perfect and that you have flaws
Feed you properly and no longer yo-yo diet, binge, purge or otherwise neglect you
Overcome the addictions that harm you.
Exercise regularly but also know when to relax
Heal you through knowledge and nutrition
Understand that my thoughts affect you
I love you

Adrenal Fatigue: What is it? Do You Have it?

Adrenal Fatigue is a health disorder that is continuously misdiagnosed and widely ignored in the medical community. Adrenal fatigue can affect anyone especially those that experience constant stress.  It is estimated that nearly 80% of people will experience adrenal fatigue at some point in their lives.

So why is this important?

I know a lot of people living with varying degrees of adrenal fatigue.  I see clients every day that have no energy, are always tired and run down, and can't figure out why they are having health and weight issues. This is important because we want to feel as sexy on the inside as we want to look on the outside!

Well let's first start with the adrenal glands!  These small pyramid shaped glands are responsible for helping with the production of over 50 hormones!  The powerhouses produce hormones that help us deal with STRESS! They produce the hormone adrenaline, and also make DHEAs, cortisol, testosterone, and estrogen to name a fewThey also are important in your immune function, regulating your body temperature, and keeping blood sugar levels stable.

If they are out of whack, you usually feel extreme exhaustion that never budges, lethargic, dizzy, depressed, and weak. To make matters worse, you may even incur allergies, low blood pressure, low blood sugar, and abnormal body temperatures. This exhaustion is puts undue stress on our bodies. Biochemically, stress does things in the body that eventually lead to the breakdown of tissue or to a dramatic disturbance in hormonal function.

Because of this, many of our modern disease patterns are heavily related to the stress in our lives and how we manage it. These are common disorders, like:

· Obesity
· Diabetes
· Heart disease
· Autoimmune disorders like celiac disease, hypothyroidism, and rheumatoid arthritis
· Gut disorders, like irritable bowl syndrome
· Hormonal imbalance, such as irregular menses or possibly infertility

Adrenal Fatigue can lead you down a path of destruction and cause many issues.  I had Adrenal Fatigue when I was a figure competitor and eventually it turned into hypothyroidism.  I was prescribed drugs to cover the situation. I had gained weight, was eating less to compensate and training more and harder, my coach thought I must not be following the "plan".  I was tired, miserable and ill.  I finally got fed up and knew I couldn't take it anymore.  I had damaged my metabolism, my thyroid, my entire body so I decided to heal myself holistically. It has taken me a couple years, but thankfully I am well and not on any prescription medications!
I no longer have hypothyroidism and my metabolism is finally working again.  It can be done!  If you would like to listen to my recent Teleclass about Adrenal Fatigue you can call 626-677-3003 Access Code 627373

Food Focus: Sweet Potatoes
Sweet Potatoes
Sweet potatoes are on everyone's mind this season. Cravings for sweets can be greatly reduced by adding sweet vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, yams, parsnips, beets, squash, turnips and rutabagas to your daily diet. Sweet potatoes elevate blood sugar gently rather than with the jolt delivered by simple refined carbohydrates, so there's no energy crash after you eat them. Much higher in nutrients than white potatoes and especially rich in vitamin A, sweet potatoes offer a creamy consistency that is satisfying and soothing. They are healing to the stomach, spleen, pancreas and reproductive organs and help to remove toxins from the body. They can increase the quantity of milk in lactating women and can lessen cramps and premenstrual symptoms. If you don't have any sweet potatoes in your kitchen, go out and buy some (organic and local if possible) and make the recipe on my website. Baked Caraway Sweet Potato with Rosemary

What about that Resolution?
Renewal

A lot of people begin the New Year by making resolutions. We've all been there. We take a vow to lose weight, exercise more or spend more time with our family. We start the year with great intentions, but then we quickly relapse into old habits. Why is it so hard to stick to those New Year's resolutions?
Here are some ways you can make your intentions a reality this year:
  1. Write down your intentions and keep them in a visible place, like taped to your bedroom mirror or the dashboard of your car.
  2. Get to the source of whatever is keeping you in a rut. Are you in a stressful relationship that causes you to eat a pint of Ben & Jerry's every night? Are you stressed at your job and feel too tired to exercise after work?  If you don't tackle the root of the behavior, it will be much harder to accomplish your goal.
  3. Be clear about what your life would look like once you achieve your goal. If you resolve to go to the gym more, how will this benefit you? Get connected to the result of your action, and you will be more likely to stick with your plan.
  4. Share your resolutions with friends and family. Hold each other accountable for achieving your goals. If you want to go to the gym more, have a friend call you two or three times a week to check on you or invite them to join you.
  5. Reward yourself with every little accomplishment. If your intention is to lose weight and you lose 1 pound a week, pamper yourself with a massage.
Big changes do not require big leaps. Permanent change is more likely to happen gradually than through one big restrictive plan. Allow yourself to climb the ladder one rung at a time.

If you need help reaching these goals you can join one of my Group Health Programs!  You will get amazing support and accountability!  I am offering a live class in Fort Lauderdale and also an amazing TELECLASS Live stream from you living room!

Happy New Year!

Class #2: Thyroid and Your Metabolism. What is the real cause of your weight gain?

Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight, low energy, fatigue and foggy thinking - these are all classic symptoms associated with an under-functioning thyroid gland. In addition, low thyroid function can cause dry skin, hair loss, chronic constipation, depression, high cholesterol, low body temperature, high blood pressure and water retention. Many people are aware of this and will report to me that they have had their doctor check their thyroid values and their blood work came back normal from the lab. They receive no treatment, despite the fact that they go on experiencing these symptoms.

Its more than just CALORIES!! Our hormones effect everything we do.  Learn to heal your body and you will stay at your perfect weight naturally.  Whether you have metabolism issues from stress, or being a Competitive Athlete and OVERTRAINING and UNDEREATING.  You can heal!! Find out how!
