Get a jump start on your
NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION!

Every year we start the same promising to do this or that, lose those extra ten pounds, have more energy, be healthier, exercise more….  What do you resolve to do every year?  And what happens six months later when SUMMER rolls around?  You have forgotten your resolutions! Why? Because life happens.  You nurture your partner, lover, children, employer and community, but not yourself.

  • ·         Struggling to find the right foods for your family?
  • ·         Have low energy?

Traditionally, women have not been taught to have good boundaries or take good care of themselves.  So this time instead of forgetting about yourself and your NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS join a group of like-minded individuals and have the accountability and support to get the life you want!

This  six month group program led by Certified Holistic Health Coach Melissa Binkley will meet for one hour every other week starting the first FULL WEEK of January.

Tips To Survive the Holiday Season

The holiday season can reek havic on our bodies, minds, and soul!  Don't let this holiday season pass like every other. Make a point to have a healthy, happy Thanksgiving.  I have made a list of my top ten tips to survive the holiday season!  Look over the list, make adjustments in your life and be thankful for everything that has gotten you where you are today!

Feed your soul with primary food. Friends and family, physical activity, spirituality and a satisfying career feed us. Lack of primary food creates over-reliance on secondary, edible food. All the veggies in the world won't save you in the rest of your life sucks!

Drink water. Most people are chronically dehydrated. We often mistake thirst for hunger. If you feel hungry between meals, drink a glass of water before giving into cravings. Limit liquid calories from soda and juice.

Chew your food well. Digestion begins in the mouth. By thoroughly chewing your food, your body will better assimilate nutrients; you will also slow down your eating. It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to register that it is full. By slowing your eating, you’ll feel full and satisfied on less food.

Be patient. This time of year everyone is in a rush. Slow down and enjoy the season.  Smile it creates kindness!!  Relax.

Eat breakfast. Skipping meals causes your blood sugar levels to peak and dip, affecting your energy and moods. It can also cause overeating later on because you’re so hungry.

Don’t try to lose weight. The holiday season is not the time to try and lose weight or go on a restrictive diet. Just focus on maintaining and enjoy the season

Get moving. Do any type of physical activity every day. Find movement or exercise you enjoy.  Go for a walk, play some flag football, stretch during commercials of your favorite football team’s game!

Sleep, rest and relax. When you are sleep-deprived or stressed, your body will crave energy, causing cravings for sugary snacks and caffeine as an energy boost.

Say “NO”. It’s ok to put yourself first. Don’t let the holidays create extra stress for you.  Stress is number one way to derail your health.

Get back on track.  After your weekend of family and holiday eats start the new week out with a healthy meal.  Do a 3 day cleanse or 6 day cleanse in between the two holidays.

If you need support this holiday season staying on track I can help!!  My health coaching program is designed to give you support right NOW.  I will be your mentor and guide you to a healthy happier you!  I use a holistic approach.  Holistic Health and Wellness.  I also have a wonderful 3 Day Fall Detox Guide or you can join my 6 Day Holiday Group Cleanse from December 2 through December 8!  Call 561-578-9492 or visit my website Healthy Healing Habits for more details.  Tune in this Wednesday to WPBR 1340 AM for my next health talk between 10 and 11 AM.

LET ME DECIDE: Make GE Labeling the LAW

LETMEDECIDE.jpeg

As the movement to label genetically engineered foods continues to gain support nationwide, we are still being subjected to potential health risks from eating these foods. We have the right to know what we are eating but agribusinesses like Monsanto foods are stripping us of this right. As a part of a democracy we have the power, and the responsibility, to take this right back. We need to continue to educate the public on the importance of labeling GE foods to increase the pressure on our legislatures. Join us for:

I invite you to come and bring your friends and family to enjoy an afternoon of GE Free eatingBring a GE free dish to have it judged byDion Taylor, the president of Raw One Foods, Adrian Veitia from Miami catering services and another surprise judge. The best dish will win a prize!

The cook-off will showcase the difficulty of avoiding GE foods as well as discuss the importance of labeling GE foods. The event will feature Tammy Ayon, Executive Director of Democratic Party of Broward County and concerned mother, Reverend Gail Tapscott from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ft. Lauderdale, Joseph Chammas, an organic farmer and many more great speakers.I look forward to seeing you there to enjoy some delicious GE Free foods with me and the Food and Water Watch team.
Can’t join us on Sunday? Come to our weekly Campaign Action Meeting tomorrow, Tuesday at 6:45pm at BM Organics, 2960 N. Federal Highway.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

Please make a donation to my Virtual Food Drive for hunger this Thanksgiving!
Greetings!

For millions of families across the country it can be hard to find joy in a meal when faced with the decision to put food on the dinner table, or to pay for medicine, the heating bill, or the mortgage.

Hunger is a difficult issue, but it's not insurmountable. I am deeply committed to fighting hunger in my community and across the country, and I know you are too. Join me and make a difference this Thanksgiving.
Feeding America understands hunger!
Feeding America is the leading domestic hunger relief organization, with network food banks serving every state. Feeding America's nationwide network of over 200 food banks provides food and groceries to 33,500 food pantries, 4,500 soup kitchens and 3,600 emergency shelters. This extensive network helps feed 37 million Americans each year -- delivering over 3 billion pounds of food. Each week nearly 5.7 million people receive emergency food assistance from an agency served by a Feeding America member.
Every dollar you give to my virtual food drive helps provide EIGHT meals to people served by the Feeding America network. When was the last time your dollar bought eight of anything? I hope you'll agree: by coming together, we can help end hunger in America. Give as much as you can -- every bit counts!

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Melissa Binkey

California Right to Know Election Statement

I received this email about Prop 37 and thought it was a very positive outlook on a grim situation and wanted to share!

To all our Supporters,

We have so much to be proud of today. Every one of you should feel your place in history. We may have lost Prop 37 -- narrowly! -- but we will not be stopped. And when we win transparency in our food system, you will be able to say you were there on the front lines.  Please share our statement and our success today: http://www.carighttoknow.org/electionstatement

Yesterday, we showed that there is a food movement in the United States, and it is strong, vibrant and too powerful to stop. We always knew we were the underdogs, and the underdogs nearly took the day. Dirty money and dirty tactics may have won this skirmish, but they will not win the war.

Today, we are more than 4 million votes closer to knowing what’s in our food than when we started. This is a victory and a giant step forward. We are proud of our broad coalition of moms and dads, farmers, nurses, environmentalists, faith and labor leaders who did so much with so few resources to bring us to this point, and we will carry forward.
These results are also a reminder of the corrupting influence of huge multinational corporations on our electoral process. The world’s leading pesticide and junk food companies outspent Yes on 37 by more than 5 to 1, and beginning on October 1, spent about a million dollars a day on a hailstorm of false claims, misrepresentations and fear mongering over five simple words on a label. In the end, they spent enough money to hide the truth from the majority of voters. But the food manufacturers are on the wrong side of history; they should not fight their customers, but join them.

Today is not the end of our campaign to secure our fundamental right to know what’s in our food. It is a strong beginning, and we thank the millions of Californians who stood with us. We are proud of our grassroots movement, our 10,000 hardworking volunteers, and the diverse coalition of health, faith, labor and consumer groups that stood with us. We will keep fighting for consumer choice, fairness and transparency in our food system.

And we will prevail.
To Victory!
